Special Olympics

In August 2017, we had a group of students from our Farnley Academy site attend the Special Olympics in Sheffield. Aound 2,600 athletes with intellectual disabilities of all ages and abilities will come together from across the country to compete in 19 sports.  The event represents a huge opportunity to showcase the abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities, allowing them to compete at a national level, experience the personal achievement this brings, as well as enable them to make friends, travel and socialise.

It was a truly memorable occasion for students, staff and families with memories that will be cherished forever.  The opening ceremony was well publicised and covered by local TV and our students could be seen participating and soaking up the atmosphere.

Thank you to everyone who helped us to make this happen for our students, for all those who donated to our Just Giving page and those who fundraised independently.  You really did make it happen!
