Rotary Shoebox Scheme

Along with individual fundraising events, The Bungalow have chosen to support the Rotary Shoebox Scheme.  Over the course of the year, they add small gifts and useful items to their shoeboxes which are then collected and sent to disadvantaged children in Eastern Europe.  Rotary operate their charity all year round and have no religious or political affiliations.

If you would like to send any small items in to add to our boxes then please see the document below for a list of ideas.

Farnley Academy Site - Playground now Officially Open!

On Thursday 23rd April we held the official opening of our fabulous new swings at our Farnley Academy site partnership.  The adapted swings have been funded by our wonderful sponsors Greggs, who really have helped to make a difference to break and lunchtimes for our pupils within this amazing provision.  Having this equipment has helped the pupils to grow socially and watching the interaction between pupils is truly amazing.  We are hopnig to have our climbing frame purchased very shortly which will be a welcome addition for our younger pupils within the partnership.

The sun was shining on the day, all the pupils came out to play and we were well supported by our families, SILC staff and Greggs representatives.

To say thank you to Greggs for their fundraising efforts, we took some of the Farnley pupils to Greggs to present them with an engraved vase.

Let's Get Going Playground - £30,000 secured

In the Summer of 2013 we were successful in securing funding from the Yorkshire Region of Wooden Spoon (the children's charity of rugby), for new playground equipment at the main site.

The grand opening took place on 11th December 2013, and was officially opened by Eorl Crabtree, Huddersfield Giants player. It was a very special day, with representatives from the local community, the Lord Mayor and of course our friends at Wooden Spoon. We were extremely honoured to have been successful in security the funding and to have so many of Wooden Spoon's representative give their valuable time to share this wonderful event. Wooden Spoon donated £30,000 towards equipment which include an assault course, swings, trampolines and a dish roundabout.

Our Project Team, including our pupils, worked very hard to secure the wonderful facilities for our school. The school council compiled a wish list of equipment and we are delighted to see their hard work come to fruition. Because of the need to keep children safe they are often excluded from the physical opportunities afforded to many of their peers. This new playground set with its safe and appropriate play equipment has given a whole new meaning to break and lunchtime.

Fundraising for Others

Our school actively engages in many fundraising events, including fundraising for other worthy causes.  Every year we participate in raising money for Comic Relief and Children in Need.  The pupils are very keen to ensure they do as much as they can to help others less fortunate than themselves.  The School Council are very active in making decisions and are keen to offer their creative ideas to the fundraising effort.  Our fundraising efforts become whole school events and really do prove to be memorable occasions.

Save the Children

We held a "Den Day" in school to raise valuable funds for Save the Children.  We raised a fantastic £119 to help children all over the world who need our help.

Some examples of how the money raised could help children who might need food because they're hungry, healthcare if they're ill or education to help them fulfil their potential.

  • £5 could buy a football to help children forget the harsh realities of living in the midst of conflict, disaster or extreme poverty
  • £6 could buy seeds that will help children in struggling families grow up healthy rather than hungry.
  • £10 could buy warm clothes to help children who live through freezing winters in places like Mongolia.

A massive thank you to all of you for your brilliant support.

Jug & Barrel, Stanningley

Our wonderful children and young people continue to touch the hearts of many within our local community.  We have a treasured relationship with our local pub, the Jug & Barrel in Stanningley.  Eilish at the pub is always thinking creatively of how to build upon her fundraising efforts from the previous year.  We have had race nights, raffles, family fun days and even fire walking which has raised in excess of £1,500 for the school.  The pub also have a weekly meat raffle, where the winner receives a £30 voucher - please contact Eilish at the Jug and Barrel if you are interested in joining the raffle (tel: 0113 257 6877).  We are so appreciative of the staff and customers at the Jug & Barrel, without whom we wouldnt be able to offer the many enrichment opportunities to our learners that we do.  Last year their contributions helped us to provide a residential to Butlins for students.  Thank you to one and all - you are all amazing!

Our Discos and Summer Fayre

We have annual school discos at various points in the year - Easter, Halloween and Christmas.  They are always well attended by our pupils who enjoy the social aspects these occasions bring.  We raise money though these events through the sale of refreshments and Greggs support us by providing savouries, buns and biscuits.  The monies are paid in to our School Fund to support with school trips, residentials and extra curriculuar activities.

Our annual Summer Fayre always proves to be an exciting event and we have a faithful following of parents, carers and their extended families.  We have craft stalls, plant stalls, face painting, tombola and refreshment stalls and they are a welcome time to catch up with old friends, meet new acquaintances and celebrate our whole school community.
