Publicly funded schools in England receive additional funding for disadvantaged pupils to help them improve their outcomes.  

Evidence shows that children from disadvantaged backgrounds:

• generally face extra challenges in reaching their potential at school
• often do not perform as well as their peers

As part of this funding schools are recquired to report how they have used the money and the impact that it has made.
