Anti-Bullying

In this school bullying and any other forms of intimidation will not be tolerated.

Bullying is defined as the repetitive, intentional harming of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power.  Bullying is therefore:

  • Deliberately hurtful
  • Repeated, often over a period of time
  • Difficult to defend against

Bullying can include: Homophobic bullying, racist bullying, trans bullying, on-line bullying, peer on peer bullying, gender bullying SEND bullying etc.

At West SILC, all will treat each other with kindness and respect and all will care well for each other.  All will come to school without fear and will be safe in school.  Everyone will be vigilant and will intervene promptly if there are any signs or reports of bullying.

Staff at West SILC understand the importance of working in collaboration with families to support students' personal development.  Staff will openly encourage a two-way dialogue through regular telephone conversations; home school diaries and face-to-face meetings.

Some Helpful Tips

  • Remove yourself from the harmful situation as soon as you can.
  • Think of five people you can turn to if you are upset or concerned, these could be: your Mum/Dad or both, your carer, a mentor in school, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins a teacher or even your coach.
  • Remember you can let your teacher know if it involves someone in school.  If they don't know, they can not help you.
  • Practise your body language - shoulders back, head up and a smile on your face.
  • Keep a diary and write in it the 4Ws, WHO, WHAT, WHERE & WHEN, write it down and keep the evidence.
  • Never feel like you are to blame.  It is the person who is bulllying  you who is at fault.
  • Get involved in out of school activities - this helps to boost your very important self esteem.
